Many of you knew that I applied to grad school this year. After receiving a couple of acceptances, I have decided to defer once again and stay in Utah. The decision was pretty much a financial one. Because of the economy, I can’t afford grad school right now. Luckily, I had to option to defer and I will for sure be going next year starting in fall 2010. In the meantime, I’ll be teaching in Utah for another year.
This year, I’m going to try and look at the school I got accepted and see what classes they offered if I did go. That way, I’ll try and get the books and read along with the class. Of course, there’s no one to talk to about what I’m reading, but maybe this blog will offer up a way to get a conversation going.
In the end, I’m just letting everyone know about my plans for grad school and the situation: I’m staying for another year.
Make a list of the books on the syllabi and maybe there will be some overlap with other peoples’ interests. If it’s a phil program I’m almost sure there’d be some overlap for me.
gunnnyyyy you always have me to talk to… that’s exactly how i feel when I read something really cool, I look around and realize.. oh yeah nobody cares… I’ve been reading Foucault lately… anyway… I’m glad you will be able to teach for another year because that in itself is a great learning experience of reaffirming what you thought you already knew, but don’t really know…so you’ll be better prepared for grad school… which school are you going to? Ok we definitely need to catch up… I’ll call u during the week… watch some wonder showzen in the meantime..
love ya
Mike,
I’ll definitely make the book list. I don’t think the bookstore will come out with the books until late summer but I’ll keep an eye on it.
Mena,
I know what you mean. Living in Ogden, Utah doesn’t get much philosophical exploration as well. I’ve been reading Camus’ The Rebel and I always want to talk to someone about it. I’ve been accepted to Marquette University and I’m almost positive I’ll go in Fall 2010.
As for Wonder Showzen, man that stuff is crazy. I’ll find some more and perhaps put some of it on here.
I finished The Rebel not long ago. Amazing book.
The Rebel
If you hadn’t quit Hollywood Video, you’d have the fund$ to go. Bad move, bro.
haha, yeah right. Hollywood was keeping me down. I was only working there 12 hours a month and all it did was pay for my benefits.
